Sixth Form
In the Sixth Form, students use IT as part of their everyday learning. In Year 12, students must bring a touchscreen device to School so that they can use OneNote in lesson, and to access the Digital Classroom where they will find online resources curated by each subject.
The touchscreen device
The device must be touchscreen, with a pen and a physical keyboard so that students can write notes long hand, but also type when required. The device must be able to run Teams and OneNote easily. Charging in School is not allowed, so the battery must last all day. Windows, Google and iOS devices are suitable.
The Online Shop offers suitable devices, and students are of course permitted to bring their own devices which meet these requirements.
Online Safety
Sixth Form students will learn about Digital Citizenship as part of their induction. There will also be sessions on Online Safety and AI as part of their Personal Development curriculum.
A Sixth Form Parents Online Safety session is run every September.
All Microsoft apps are free to access using your son or daughter’s kes.net account.
FAQs for Prospective Sixth Form Students
When should we buy a device for our son or daughter?
The Online Shop is open throughout the year but would recommend that, if possible, students joining the Sixth Form have their device over the summer holidays so that they are confident in using it.
What core apps need to be installed on the device and where can I get these from?
Students can install the core Office 365 apps (such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint) onto their device from their School Office 365 account at no cost. Their School account allows for the installation of the Office suite on to a maximum of 5 devices.
Can I install additional software on to the machine?
Yes, the device belongs to you!
Does the School provide anti-virus software?
Students and parents are responsible for ensuring that their device is safe to use and that they are protected online.
Does the School provide spare devices?
The School does not provide spare devices if students forget them.
Can I buy a laptop from the high street or online instead?
Yes. You are free to purchase and use any device which is touch screen, with a pen and physical keyboard, and which runs Teams and OneNote.
